Getting Started
How do I import my Kindle highlights?
Connect your Kindle to a computer via USB. Find the file documents/My Clippings.txt. In the Synapse app, go to your Library, tap the cloud icon (or upload button), and select that file.
How does scanning work?
Tap any book in your library, then tap "Scan Highlight." Take a photo of the page. Tap the paragraphs you want to keep, and our AI will automatically remove headers, page numbers, and formatting issues.
Can I scan any book?
Yes! You can scan any physical book page. For the best results, ensure the page is well-lit and flat. The AI works best with standard non-fiction and fiction text.

How do insights work?
Whenever you save a new highlight, Synapse's "Serendipity Engine" scans your entire library. If it finds a connection—like a contradiction or supporting idea—from a different book, it generates a "Flash Insight" for you.
Can I chat with just one book?
Currently, the chat feature searches your *entire* library to find the best answers. This helps you synthesize knowledge across multiple authors.
Does the AI hallucinate?
We use advanced grounding techniques (RAG) to ensure the AI answers based primarily on *your* highlights. However, like all LLMs, it can occasionally make mistakes. Always verify critical information against the source text.
Account & Data
Is my data private?
Yes. Your notes are stored securely and are only accessed by the AI when you request an insight or chat response. We do not sell your reading data.
How do I delete my account?
Currently, you can delete individual books and highlights by tapping the trash icon. To request a full account deletion, please email support.
I forgot my password.
Use the "Forgot Password" link on the login screen. We will email you a secure 6-digit code to reset it.
Can I export my data?
Not yet, but we are working on export features for Markdown and CSV formats. Stay tuned!
